Hole 1
Handicap 11 Par 4
Tees at:
379 347 317 272
The drive for this fairway requires more accuracy than distance. The tree on the right of the approach shot can block the approach shot if the drive is too far to the right.
Hole 2
Handicap 13 Par 4
Tees at:
367 344 319 279
Trees line the fairway on both sides which is typical for Firethorne. So if your driver won't behave it may be time to consider a 3 wood on these shorter par 4s.
Hole 3
Handicap 17 Par 3
Tees at:
157 130 115 71
A good 9 iron should get you home here with an opportunity for birdie. The only trouble is a shallow sand trap on the right front of the green.
Hole 4
Handicap 7 Par 5
Tees at:
528 498 452 405
Not many get here in two because of the uphill landing area for the drive on this par 5. The fairway bunkers are positioned in the landing area for big hitters. You may be faced with a blind shot to the green and if so, it is best to err to the left because of the bunker on the right of the green.
Hole 5
Handicap 3 Par 4
Tees at:
402 380 323 254
This is an interesting dogleg left that requires a 2nd shot over a deep ravine. The drive must be far enough to get past the bend but not too far. I have seen a few drive through the fairway. The green slopes to the right so favor the right on the approach if you don't like down hill putts.
Hole 6
Handicap 5 Par 4
Tees at:
378 352 313 235
The dark area in front of the tee is marsh and is a water hazard. The green sits on top of a steep hill which calls for a blind shot.
Hole 7
Handicap 1 Par 4
Tees at:
426 399 355 304
The uphill tee shot requires sufficient length to mount the hill in order to see the green. However the approach is downhill and the green is fairly large but trapped.
Hole 8
Handicap 15 Par 3
Tees at:
197 163 121 83
This is a tough hole to par. The green has two levels and it pays to be on the correct one. Pin position and proper club selection is key. The worst spot to end up is anywhere to the left of the green, either in the trap or above it because the green slopes to the right and is very hard to hold with a pitch.
Hole 9
Handicap 9 Par 5
Tees at:
535 517 445 401
Trees line the fairway on both sides which is typical for Firethorne. So if your driver won't behave it may be time to consider a 3 wood on these shorter par 4s.
Hole 10
Handicap 10 Par 4
Tees at:
431 407 358 280
Those are large rocks on the hill in front of the tee. They should be out of play from any decent drive, but there is a fairway bunker on the left which often comes into play. The reward of a decent lengthy drive is a nice downhill shot to a benign green.
Hole 11
Handicap 14 Par 4
Tees at:
348 328 288 247
I think the handicap #2 rating on this short but really different dogleg right par 4 is properly rated because both the tee shot and the approach is target golf personified. Many times the drive, which must be straight, goes too far and rolls into a deep ravine with heavy rough. The green is not pitched towards you and requires an accurate high iron over the deep ravine to hold. Count on crooked shots yielding big trouble.
Hole 12
Handicap 12 Par 3
Tees at:
194 170 155 85
It pays to favor the left side of the green because the green is pitched to the right. Landing on the green is a necessity with traps on both sides and more trouble behind and to the right.
Hole 13
Handicap 8 Par 5
Tees at:
575 546 475 395
Don't expect to get there in two on this long straight par 5. It requires 2 good shots to get into position for an iron to the guarded green. Beware of the right fairway trap with the drive and favor the left side.
Hole 14
Handicap 4 Par 4
Tees at:
430 402 336 304
This right angle dogleg left par 4 has a large landing area beyond the left fairway bunker but it requires more than 225 yards to clear it but you could reach the water. The safe area is in the middle but further from the green. The approach is a long challenging shot over both the pond and traps in front of the green.
Hole 15
Handicap 16 Par 3
Tees at:
207 163 125 81
A pond with a stone bulkhead in front of the green must be cleared with either a 7 or 6 iron depending on pin position. This fairly large green is guarded by traps on the left and the pond which reaches around on the right.
Hole 16
Handicap 6 Par 4
Tees at:
390 363 290 258
Both distance and pinpoint accuracy is demanded on this uphill slight dogleg left par 4. Forget the pond in front. The fairway traps on the left will get you almost everytime.
Hole 17
Handicap 18 Par 5
Tees at:
520 492 439 377
This straight-away par 5 can be reached in two by the longer hitters if the drive gets over the top of the hill. The approach is downhill but traps block any long wood approach that attempts to bounce and roll on.
Hole 18
Handicap 2 Par 4
Tees at:
440 405 325 295
This long par 4 finishing hole demands length off the tee where a hook guarantees trouble since woods border the entire left side of the fairway to the green. The elevated green is heavily guarded by traps and the secret is to take advantage of a safe landing area in the left front of the green. Chalk up a par here, count your two birdies from the 3rd and 9th, mark your scorecard 2 under 70 (assuming you made par on the other 15) and walk to the clubhouse with a grin.
